Bakery Scout is an independent Canadian directory built for people who care what a bakery actually makes and how they can buy it.
The problem we are trying to solve
Generic local search is excellent at distance and directions, but weak at the distinctions that matter once you know what you want. A gluten-free option is not a dedicated facility. A coffee shop with one pastry is not an artisan bread bakery. “Cakes” does not tell you whether custom, wedding or same-day service is available.
We built Bakery Scout to make those differences visible, with source links and verification dates instead of unsupported checkmarks.
What is in the directory
The public directory currently contains 4,705 researched profiles across 637 Canadian communities. Of those, 3,107 clear the current source-quality gate for search indexing. The remaining 1,598 stay available for visitors and corrections but are marked noindex until better official evidence is found.
The directory includes independent storefronts, home bakeries with clear consumer access, pastry and cake specialists, doughnut and bagel shops, and qualified wholesale bakeries with verified retail ordering. Grocery departments, national coffee chains, closed locations, equipment suppliers and results where bakery activity is merely incidental are excluded.
Independent by design
Bakeries do not pay to be included or ranked. Advertising, if introduced, will be visually separated from directory facts and will not alter qualification, evidence labels or editorial conclusions.
Because businesses change, every listing includes a route to suggest a correction. We would rather show an honest unknown than invent certainty.
